We warn the public not to use the fake QR codes found on some parking machines in Prague to pay for parking. These QR codes link to fake websites and when loaded may inadvertently provide sensitive data to fraudsters.
Now the detected fake QR codes are gradually being removed from the parking meters by our technicians and checks will be carried out on other parking meters on an ongoing basis.
Recommendation: to purchase parking via QR code, we always recommend that you first verify the address you are being redirected to or use another online payment method to pay your parking fees from a trusted source. Another safe method of payment is through a parking meter in cash or by credit card.
The correct QR code is located on the right side of the parking meter (see Figure 1) and directs you to parking.praha.eu/PA/machine-number and from there to vph.zpspraha.cz/PA/machine-number.
Currently detected fake QR codes contain the English description “TAP OR SCAN” or “SCAN TO PAY”, see Figure 2, 3.
