Frequently Asked Questions Zero-emission vehicles

Zero-emission vehicles

What is a zero-emission vehicle?

A zero-emission motor vehicle is defined as a vehicle powered exclusively by electricity or hydrogen.

Please note: An EL-series licence plate does not automatically entitle one to a discount (discount does not apply to hybrid vehicles).

Why is it necessary for zero-emission vehicles to be registered?

In order to be able to apply a 50% discount to long-term and short-term parking for a zero-emission vehicle, it must be registered in the system.

Zero-emission vehicles registered in the Czech Road Vehicle Register are automatically registered in the system, and data on these vehicles is regularly updated. New entries from the Register are loaded into the system with a delay of several days. You can check whether your vehicle is registered for a discount using the Registration check.

Is it possible to claim a discount for a vehicle with an EL-series licence plate?

Which long-term parking permits are eligible for the discount?

Eligibility for a discount on long-term parking applies to residents (persons with permanent residence), subscribers (legal entities with a place of business or registered office within the relevant parking zone) and natural persons who own a residential-zoned property. You can find more information in the Methodology for issuing of long-term parking permits (only CZ version).

Please note: Self-employed natural persons who apply with their Company ID (IČO) are not entitled to a discount.

How do I apply my discount to long-term parking permit and where all can I park with it?

If you are applying for a discount on long-term parking and your vehicle has already been registered, sign in to the Client Zone,Client Zone and the discount will be applied automatically when you submit an application for a parking permit if the conditions have been met. You can find more information in the Methodology for Issuing of Long-Term Parking Permits.

If your vehicle has not been registered, register it using the Registration Form and then apply for a parking permit. These requests will be processed by the parking permit issuing office together.

A long-term parking permit issued with a 50% discount can only be used in the zone for which it was issued – generally within a single municipal district.

Please note: Long-term parking permits are not valid in orange (visitor) zones.

Can a permanent licence plate change be made for a discounted long-term parking permit?

A permanent change is possible in the following cases:

  • You are applying for a permanent change from a vehicle not eligible for a discount to a zero-emission vehicle. In this case, the zero-emission vehicle discount will not be taken into account and price difference will not be refunded. If the difference is significant, we recommend terminating your original parking permit issuing office and applying for a new one with the discount.
  • You are applying for a permanent change from one zero-emission vehicle to another (i.e. both vehicles are eligible for the discount). You can check whether the vehicle is registered with the Registration check service. If your new vehicle is not yet registered, register it using the Registration Form.

A permanent change is not possible if you are applying for a change from a zero-emission vehicle to a vehicle not eligible for the discount. Here it is necessary to terminate the original permit at an issuing office and apply for a new one for the standard price.

How do I apply my discount to short-term (visitors) parking?

If you are applying for a discount for short-term parking and the vehicle has already been registered, use the Online Parking Machine or one of the other Online Payment Methods. If the vehicle plate number is already registered in the system, a 50% discount will be deducted from the fee automatically. If your vehicle has not yet been registered, register it via the Registration Form.

After registering successfully, the discount can be applied in all Paid Parking Zones in Prague.

Please note: Parking machines on the street do not provide the discount.

How do I submit a registration request for a zero-emission vehicle?

If your licence plate has not been registered (check with Registration check), proceed as follows.

On the Vehicle Registration form:

  • fill in the vehicle’s licence plate number and choose the country
    • for the Czech Republic, enter the number of the ORV (vehicle registration certificate, sometimes called the “technical licence”) and upload its first page as an attachment
    • for other countries, enter the ORV number, VIN, and fuel type, and upload the pages of the ORV that contain those items (typically both pages of the ORV)
  • enter your e-mail to receive notifications on the state of your application (optional)
  • check off the reCAPTCHA verification and click the Submit button

As soon as we verify your application (it can take roughly 5 working days), we will send a notification to the provided e-mail address. If you do not provide an e-mail address, you can check the state of your application with Registration check.

A zero-emission vehicle registration application can also be submitted at any parking permit issuing office.

How do I register a zero-emission vehicle registered abroad?

For vehicles registered abroad, registration using the form is required. Thus it is always necessary to attach the ORV (vehicle registration certificate, in Czech known as the “small technical licence”) with the certificate number, VIN, fuel type and licence plate number.

The ORV number is the document number (serial number) of the vehicle registration certificate. If the certificate does not include English, a certified translation must be provided.

You can check whether a vehicle has been registered using Registration check.

Notice for vehicles registered abroad: Always upload as an attachment the actual ORV, not a different document. The registration document for Ukrainian vehicles in the Czech Republic is not a valid equivalent.
